they will be mine... oh yes

Usually rock shows are announced on the radio a few days before the Saturday they go on sale. The Blaze dj who mentioned the White Stripes coming to Utah may have jumped the gun since tickets apparently don't go on sale until June 2nd. I think he said they're coming on like September 12th or something.

This is huge.

Last month the White Stripes replaced New Order as the current band I most want to see live before I die (New Order broke up). As a result, Maria and I are getting tickets (she actually doesn't know yet (hopefully she won't mind part of her birthday devoted to buying them)).

Does anyone else want to come? Many of you aren't fans and that's fine. Many more of you may not be as familiar as I am. I'm totally willing to make a mix cd for both groups' benefit.

Let me know. J.R., if this gets you back on the mainland, you can sleep on my couch for a couple of days.

I didn't realize you were such a big White Stripes fan. Count me in on this one...I'm sure Melanie would love to go to as she has magazine cut-outs of Meg and Jack taped to the wall of her bedroom.

JOn, since you win stuff on the radio, can you win me a pair of tickets to see The Killers?
While you're at it, when July rolls around, can you win me some tickets to the White Stripes.

This would be good...and stuff.

I tend to rate bands by how much I'm willing to pay to see them. Right now, WS are a $25 band, but I could probably be convinced they are worth more.

i've never really gotten the rating bands by how much you'd pay for them thing. concerts may only last two or three hours, but they're not like meals. the experience for good or bad stays with you. for that reason i almost completely take money out of the equation. it really just comes down to whether or not the show would be a positive or negative experience for me. even if the show wasn't fun for me at all, a year later i wouldn't be saying "ughh! if only i had that 40 bucks i blew on driveshaft!" cuz by that time the money itself would be completely irrelevant. if the band was even mildly interesting you'll forever have a laugh about it with your friends, but you won't feel the dent in your wallet years later. but, say a band that never ever ever comes to utah comes along (the white stripes) and you hear semi-good things about them, but you refrain from buying tickets because you have a pre-set price limit. then years later when they're like u2 (but really good) and never come again and when they do all the poseurs suck up the tickets and the scalpers are offing them for a grand apiece... well, suddenly that $40 dollar gamble from a while back seems like an outright steal don't it?

anyway, mike if you haven't heard too much of their music i'll make you that cd. if i don't get around to doing that then go out and get your hands on 'de stijl' or 'white blood cells' and tell me what you think.

I check the blogs I read often enough to notice when new comments are made. I appreciate the cross check nonetheless.

I guess my thoughts are along the line of, "for that $40, I can buy half a pair of racing flats, 2 new books, or a new pickup...I'd rather have some new books than go see a band I don't like that much..."

Still, life experiences ARE indeed invaluable. Even the crappy ones make for good stories. If you're in the mood, I'd greatly appreciate that CD; maybe I can go from there.
